How it all
got started

Porch & Rec started in 2023 in Indian Land, South Carolina, as a just-for-fun clothing brand born out of an admiration for vintage Gap and J.Crew, old athletic clothes and the illustrated catalogs that could make a plain sweatshirt worth reading about.

There was a little bodybuilding in the mix, along with collegiate lettering, crew socks and the country-club air of people who may never have belonged to a country club. The idea was to make something we wanted to wear, with enough humor to keep it from taking itself too seriously.

When fewer than ten of our hats made it to the front of Indian Land CrossFit, we announced that Porch & Rec was moving up in the world. It was a small display, but we felt it deserved an announcement.

We still enjoy a hard workout and a little friendly competition, but an afternoon on the back porch with friends has its own considerable merits. The name makes room for both.
